How to use this map

Choose between three different maps
Use the tabs to choose one of the three maps:

Regulate flood Level
Use the Map Inundation Increment slider (in the "Map and Chart Controls" section of this sidebar) to increase or decrease sea level

Interact with Graphs and Charts
Hover over with the mouse on the graphs and charts in the "Map and Chart Controls" section of this sidebar to get relevant national numerical figures

Zoom and Pan
The maps cover the entire Israeli Mediterranean coastline - Use your mouse to zoom and pan to the area of your choice

Retrieve Municipal Data
Click on the inundated areas on the map to retrieve municipal level figures, graphs and charts in pop-up windows

Vulnerability Index

The map presents an assesment of social and economic vulnerability of populations residing in coatsal flood hazard areas in Israel.

Social vulnerability is measured by a composite index that encompasses the leading variables likely to affect a households socio-economic status and thereby its life chances of recovery. Vulnerability is comprised of exposure (exogenous) and resilience (endogenous).

Four key social variables are used to define vulnerability at the spatial resolution of the statistical area. These are average income, disabilities, age groups and number of vehicles per household. We divide the national distribution of each indicator into quintiles (1- least vulnerable, 5-most vulnerable) and assign each statistical area to its respective class. The weighted composite index is devised as follows: Ivul = Ii*0.5 + Id*0.2 + Ia*0.2 + Iv*0.1
where: Ivul = the composite vulnerability index, Ii = income quintile, Id = disability quintile, Ia = age quintile, Iv = vehicle quintile.
